Frequently Asked Questions

Although I have probably never been asked most, or all, of these questions at any point in my life, I have decided to make an FAQ page anyway. I think FAQ pages are, for the most part, usually fun to read. If you would like to send me a REAL question, please use my contact page, or send me an E-Mail at contact@joetex.net. I will post this question,. and answer, right away somewhere, probably on the homepage.

Last Update on this page: 05-29-03.

Q: Can you tell me a little about yourself?
A: My name is Joe Teixeira, and I am from Boca Raton, FL. I bowl both local tournaments and PBA Southern Region tournaments. I wish to keep my amateur status until I finish in a cashing position in a PBA event.

Q: How old are you? Are you married, single, divorced?
A: I am 24 years old. I turned 24 on the 17th of May. I am not married, not divorced, and don't have a girlfriend right now. That would make me single.

Q: Why did you make this website?
A: I made this website because I have nothing better to do. Really. It's like a diary, but online. Plus I get to keep track of all of my tournament activities this way. And who knows, people may actually be reading this stuff. I started with this website in March of 2002, right before my very first PBA tournament.

Q: This website reminds me a lot of Walter Ray.com. Why is that?
A: Because that's pretty much where I got the idea to do this site. I always, always liked to write, and keep stats of everything. So once I was checking out walterray.com, and figured that since I had a domain name of my own, I may as well use it.

Q: How often is this website updated?
A: I try to update the website as much as possible. Currently, I work during the daytime as a head programmer for a website design company, and I also help out part-time over at Precision Pro Shop. This doesn't include any league or tournament play that I do. And on Sunday's, if I'm not bowling, I'm watching either NFL football or the TV Finals of the week's PBA national event. I usually do updates whenever I can around that schedule. Maybe if I can become consistently good at bowling, and do that full-time, I will be able to update this website even faster, and at an even more frequent rate then I already do.

Q: How many tournaments do you bowl per year?
A: I would have to estimate about 40 tournaments per year, if not more. This number includes both professional and amateur events. This year I will not make that number, but that's as many tournaments as I would like to bowl.

Q: Do you bowl in a league?
A: Yes. I bowl about 2 leagues a week. As of the date above, I bowl on both Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Q: How often do you practice?
A: Well, I try to get in about 2 practice sessions during the week. I will usually practice on a specific area of my game on most practices, but once every two weeks, sometimes once a week, I like to bowl a 3-game set for score, where I also imagine game-like situations (time permitting). I don't practice as much now a days, because I am bowling pretty much all the time, so I really don't need that much practice. I try to practice on Friday, and sometimes either Monday or Tuesday.

Q: Do you really need to carry all of those bowling balls?
A: Yes. In fact, that is only about a half, sometimes even about a third of what players on the National Tour will have at one time. It is necessary to have as many different "tools" as you can for any "job". You never know when you'll need a ball that rolls earlier, rolls later, flips harder, or goes straighter, or anything in between.

Q: Why do you pretty much use Columbia 300 products only?
A: For some reason, Columbia 300 bowling balls and myself have always gone well together. A few years back I had a few Brunswick Balls, a few Ebonite balls, and even a Storm ball. I liked them, but when I started using Columbia products, I really liked all of them, so I stuck with them. I don't like breaking routine, so I'll stick with Columbia for now. Right now, I have only two current balls that are not Columbia 300 products. Click here to view my equipment.

Q: What kind of bowling shoes do you have?
A: I use Dynothane ABS Pro-Am's. Click here for more information on the best bowling shoe ever created.

Q: I was looking at the stats page, and...
A: Let me explain how my stats page works, and how I keep my stats. (This pretty much applies to the non-PBA tournaments that I keep stats of). In most local tournaments, there will be two different divisions - handicap and scratch. I always get in both divisions. Now, I count this as one event, regardless of how many divisions I get into (because if you think about it, it's really one event that's taking place). However, if I cash, make the cut, make the finals, or win in both divisions, they will both be counted. So, theoretically, it is possible for me to have more cashes, finals, and titles then events bowled. Here is an example:

** Example Only **

Events

Cashes

Semi's

Top 5

Titles

Earnings

1

2

2

2

2

$12,000.00

As you can see above, I bowled in one amateur event. I made the cut and cashed in both divisions, so I have the number "2" under cashes and "2" under "Semi's" (in most amateur events, all bowlers cut will cash). I have the number "2" under the Top 5 category, because I must have bowled pretty good, and then the number 2 under titles, because I was on fire and swept the tournament (Hey, it's my example, I can do what I want). Wow, look at how much money I made.

This example should help clear up any questions on my non-PBA stats.

Q: Who sponsors you to go out and bowl as much as you do?
A: As of right now, I have 100% financed myself in all of my tournament activities in my entire bowling career. This includes tournament entry fees, brackets and side pots, meals, transportation, lodging, etc... I am not against having a sponsor, in fact, it would be really nice. However, one (or a few) have not crossed my path yet, so I have no choice but to sponsor myself, until someone is willing to give me money to bowl. In a way, it's very gratifying when you win money and tournaments with your own money, but if if someone can help out, I won't say no to that.

Q: What is the deal with this Year-End Evaluation?
A: Every year I do a year-end self-evaluation. Click here to read the last evaluation report.

Q: What kind of grips do you use? What are their sizes? What is your cut-to-cut span? What is your PAP?
A: As of 5-16-03, I have renamed the "Equipment" page to "Gear & Specs". You will find everything you need to know about my bowling equipment and technical specifications there. Click here to go to that page.

Q: I want to bowl with you in a doubles / mixed doubles / World Team Challenge / PWBA or PBA doubles event. How do i get in contact with you?
A: E-mail me at contact@joetex.net. I check my email at least twice a day, sometimes even more then that. If you write me an email, you will definetly get a response sometime within 24 hours, or less. I'll bowl with pretty much anyone there is to bowl with, just let me know a few weeks or so in advance, so I can make the proper work / personal arrangements. Also, feel free to ask me any questions about my bowling career, style, theories, strategies, etc... I don't mind those questions at all, and actually, it would be very prudent of you to do so, as "team dynamics" is a very integral part of doubles or team bowling.
