SFMBA Tournament - Report
{ 05-03-03 }
For the first time in my soon to be illustrious bowling career, I bowled in the South
Florida Masters Bowling Association Tournament. This tournament has been held since
1981, and has paid out over $4 Million in prize money. It is a good 45 minutes away
from where I live, but since there wasn't much of anything going on, I decided to
bowl in it anyway.
The tournament was held at Sawgrass Lanes, in Sunrise, FL. They just installed new
synthetic heads there, which holds down the shot better, as opposed to the older wood
surface that they had. The back-ends are still wood, though. Anyway, I decided to
play directly up 4,5,6, using an AMF Nighthawk. I scored a 245 in the first game.
For me to make the cut in this particular tournament, I would have to shoot at least
720, and that is just making the cut. In the second game, I shot a 200 game, alternating
between spares and strikes. Even though this game was OK (with an open in the 1st
frame), it put the pressure on, as I had to shoot about a 260 or better game, just
to advance to the finals. I did not do this in game 3, as I was only good for a 221.
Overall I bowled well, but the scores were very high all throughout. I usually can't
keep up with a very high scoring field, as that is not my forte, but I did try. Better
luck next time.
